Foo Fighters’ new single “Something from Nothing” has already dethroned Nickelback’s “Edge of a Revolution” to claim #1 at active rock radio.
According to Mediabase, the song elevates to number one (a position that will be declared official Sunday evening) on the strength of 1,581 spins during the October 19-25 tracking week. The Nickelback song, which reigned for two weeks, claimed 1,473 during that seven day window.
“Nothing,” which debuted at #22 on last week’s chart after only three days of airplay, saw a 1,047 boost in its weekly spin total. That is the week’s greatest airplay gain by a multiple of more than 5.
In addition to leading “Revolution” in plays, the new Foo Fighters song also claims a dominant advantage in the airplay race. “Something from Nothing” received 5.16 million active rock impressions, while Nickelback’s comeback rock single was good for 3.47 million.
A multi-format smash, “Something from Nothing” appears at #1 on Mediabase’s mainstream rock chart (note that the aforementioned active rock chart is actually more comparable to Billboard’s “Mainstream Rock Songs” chart), #5 on this week’s alternative airplay chart and #30 on this week’s Triple A chart.
Other top five active rock singles include Slipknot’s “The Devil in I” (#3), Five Finger Death Punch’s “Wrong Side of Heaven” (#4) and Royal Blood’s “Figure it Out” (#5).
