Maddie & Tae’s “Girl in a Country Song” Goes Top 10

Their song is called “Girl in a Country Song,” and Maddie Marlow and Tae Dye are now the girls in the country radio top ten.

According to Mediabase, Maddie & Tae’s “Girl in a Country Song” was the country format’s tenth-most-played song for the seven days ending October 24. It will easily hold that position through Sunday evening and thus score the breakthrough act an official top ten on the Mediabase airplay chart.

And insofar as the song still accumulating new airplay at a respectable rate, “Girl in a Country Song” is a lock to move even higher in the coming weeks.

Per Mediabase, “Girl” received 5,030 spins and 37.26 million audience impressions between October 18 and October 24.

While the success of “Girl in a Country Song” is helping to garner attention for its lyrics, which give mainstream country a dressing down for its portrayal of women, it comes with additional significance. The top portion of the country airplay chart is often without any representation from exclusively female acts, and those artists who do break through its walls are almost never newcomers.

“Girl in a Country Song” sends a young, unproven, female duo into that restrictive club.
