“Dracula: Untold” Tops Friday Box Office, Leads “Alexander,” “The Judge”

While it is at risk of ceding the number one position to “Gone Girl” as the weekend progresses, “Dracula: Untold” opened atop the Friday box office.

Poorly reviewed, the film nonetheless claimed first on the strength of $8.9 million in receipts. “Gone Girl” settled for the runner-up slot with a healthy $8.2 million.

“Annabelle,” last week’s runner-up, slid to #3 with $5.2 million. That gave it the slight edge over “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” which opened at #4 thanks to a similar $5.2 million gross. By Sunday, however, it will likely have overtaken “Annabelle” to claim #3 on the weekend chart.

New release “The Judge” claimed fifth with $4.4 million.
