It was only a month ago that Mr Probz’ “Waves,” after a period of stagnation at pop radio, finally leaped into the Top 40.
Now pop’s eleventh greatest weekly airplay gainer, Mr Probz’ breakthrough “Waves” is officially one of the format’s top 20 songs.
According to Mediabase, the song ranks #20 on the strength of 4,102 spins during the September 21-27 tracking period. It garnered 28.21 million audience impressions within that seven day window.
Since the top 20 ranking has been officially confirmed by Mediabase, nothing can strip “Waves” of the achievement. Two songs are, however, threatening “Waves”‘ position at pop radio.
Up five places, Calvin Harris’ “Blame (featuring John Newman)” lands at #21 this week. Trailing “Waves” by only 53 spins and rising almost twice as quickly, the tune should imminently leap into the rolling Top 20.
Also in the hunt–and new to the top 25 this week–is Nick Jonas’ “Jealous.” The song, which is the latest beneficiary of the iHeartRadio “On the Verge” boost, climbs to #23 on the strength of 3,880 spins. A rapid riser, its week-over-week spin gain of 1,738 trails only those of Taylor Swift’s #2 “Shake it Off” (+2,085) and Iggy Azalea’s #3 “Black Widow (featuring Rita Ora)” (+1,797).
While both “Blame” and “Jealous” appear poised to leapfrog “Waves” in the coming days, it is worth noting that Sia’s freefalling #18 song “Chandelier” could fall out of the top 20 — and thus open up a new spot — by as early as Monday.
Other milestones this week:
— The aforementioned “Black Widow” rises 3 places to a new peak of #3.
— Jeremih’s rhythmic crossover “Don’t Tell ‘Em (featuring YG)” enters the top 10 at #9.
— Maroon 5’s “Animals” rockets thirty places to #28 this week.
— Fall Out Boy’s “Centuries” jumps four places to #40.
