Sam Smith’s “Only One” Goes Top 40 at Hot AC, Hits #43 at Pop

The follow-up to Sam Smith’s blockbuster “Stay With Me” is officially on the move.

“I’m Not the Only One,” the singer-songwriter’s hotly anticipated new single, leaps into the Top 40 on Mediabase’s official Hot Adult Contemporary airplay chart this week.

According to Mediabase, the song lands at #36 on the strength of 614 Hot AC spins during the September 21-27 tracking period. Enough to fuel a nine place lift on the chart, the song’s weekly spin gain clocked in at an impressive 399.

Its Hot AC audience impression count of 4.94 million ranks at an even more impressive #27.

“I’m Not the Only One” also enjoys a big gain at pop radio. Not set to formally impact the format until this week, “Only One” lands at #43 on the strength of 770 pop spins this week. Its audience impression count of 2.87 million ranks as pop’s 42nd-largest.

— Other new Top 40 entries at Hot AC include Maroon 5’s “Animals” (#33) and Hozier’s “Take Me to Church” (#40).
