“Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” Flops at the Box Office

A ticket to “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” was evidently not one for which to kill.

The sequel to the 2005 hit earned an abysmal $2.6 million at the box office Friday, which puts it on track for a sub-$8 million weekend.

Unless a miracle happens at the Saturday box office–and it will not–“Dame” will close its first weekend with less than one-third (and possibly even less than one-fourth) of the $29.1 million grossed by “Sin City” upon opening in April 2005.

Thanks to that minuscule sum, “Dame” landed in sixth place on opening night. “If I Stay” won Friday (but will likely slip to second by the end of the weekend) with $6.8 million.

“Guardians,” which is expected to charge past “If I Stay” by the end of the weekend, ranked second with roughly $5 million in Friday receipts.

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” claimed third with $4.5 million, while “Let’s Be Cops” remained in the mix with $4 million.

New release “When the Game Stands Tall” claimed the #5 spot with $2.9 million.
