Ratings Update: ABC’s “Rising Star” Hits New Series Low

Update: The overnight ratings were not misleading. ABC’s “Rising Star” indeed sank to a series low Sunday.

This week’s Top 8 performance show drew a mere 0.7 adults 18-49 rating with 2.92 million viewers. While it might enjoy a slight uptick in the finals (particularly in the viewership column), the overall performance will not exceed the previous low marks of a 0.9 in adults 18-49 and 3.73 million total viewers.

Cue the fourteen millionth joke about how ratings for ABC’s “Rising Star” are not rising.

Sunday’s episode, which featured the Top 8 performances, drew a series low 2.0 overnight household rating. Down from last week’s 2.2, the mark also falls short of the 2.1 delivered by the July 27 episode.

That 2.1 represented the show’s previous low in the overnights.

Last week’s 2.2 rating translated into a 0.9 adults 18-49 rating with 3.73 million viewers. Even though the episode did better than the previous week’s installment in the overnights, its viewership total ranked as the weakest to date.

Following Sunday’s episode, only Jesse Kinch, Dana Williams, Austin French, Josh Peavy, Audrey Kate Geiger and Maneepat Molloy are left in the “Rising Star” competition. They return to the stage next Sunday.
