“The Fault in Our Stars” Misses $50 Million, Still Dominates Box Office

Proving itself to be extremely front-loaded, at least as far as its opening weekend was concerned, “The Fault in Our Stars” failed to cross the $50 million mark at the box office this weekend.

The film, which earned a whopping $26.1 million on Friday, only added a combined $22.1 million Saturday and Sunday to earn $48.2 million for the weekend.

Despite the slow down, “Fault” still dominated the weekend box office. “Maleficent,” the number two film, settled for $33.5 million.

New release “Edge of Tomorrow,” meanwhile, claimed third with a modest $29.1 million.

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” ($14.7 million) and “A Million Ways to Die in the West” ($7.2 million) completed the top five.
