Last week, Headline Planet projected that Pharrell’s “Come Get it Bae,” Demi Lovato’s “Really Don’t Care (featuring Cher Lloyd)” and Becky G’s “Shower” would all enter the Top 40 at radio.
That forecast was correct. According to the latest edition of Mediabase’s rolling Top 40 airplay chart, all three songs are among the forty most played at pop radio.
Leading the charge is Pharrell’s exploding “Come Get it Bae,” which ranked as the #32 song for the seven days ending June 1. Demi Lovato’s tune, which is also picking up steam, claims the #38 position.
“Shower,” which is still rising but at a slower pace that the other two songs, is now #40.
Tiesto’s “Wasted (featuring Matthew Koma),” which scored a significant number of early radio adds, also made a recent ascent into the Top 40. It was the 37th most song for the seven days ending June 1.
While not yet exploding, song making waves beneath the Top 40 include Rita Ora’s “I Will Never Let You Down” and Enrique Iglesias’ “Bailando (featuring Gente De Zona).” While Ora’s track is currently higher on the chart (#43 vs. #44), the Iglesias song is gaining airplay at a faster rate. It, therefore, represents a better bet for a Top 40 run.
Thanks to its support from large market radio stations, “Bailando” is also commanding a significantly larger audience. Its weekly impression count of 9.13 million listeners significantly exceeds the 2.38 million mark posted by “I Will Never Let You Down.”
It, in fact, means that the song was pop radio’s 33rd-most-played tune. Of the top 40 songs identified above, only Pharrell’s “Come Get it Bae” (9.44 million) is commanding a larger audience.
