Based on this weekend’s preview airings, NBC made the right call in positioning “About a Boy” as the more high-profile of its new comedies.
“Growing Up Fisher,” which premiered after Sunday’s Winter Olympics broadcast, drew a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating with 8.862 million viewers. While it narrowly beat “Boy” in total viewers, it trailed in the more pivotal adults 18-49 number.
“About a Boy,” which aired after Saturday’s Olympics coverage (and a half hour later), posted a 2.2 with 8.257 million viewers.
Like the final segment of Saturday’s broadcast, the last half hour of Sunday’s Olympics coverage drew a 2.9 adults 18-49 rating. “About a Boy,” therefore, demonstrated stronger retention.
That retention ability will be key for the comedies, which begin airing out of NBC’s juggernaut “The Voice” this Tuesday.
“About a Boy,” which showed stronger retention potential, will immediately follow “The Voice” at 9PM. “Fisher” will follow at 9:30PM.
