Spears’ “Britney Jean” Takes iTunes Lead, PTX, Jake Owen Follow

Whether its actual sales total will align with expectations remains to be seen, but at press time, Britney Spears’ “Britney Jean” can at least claim the lead on iTunes.

With the week’s key albums now officially released, Spears’ “Jean” claims the number one spot on the leading digital music store’s album sales chart. Benefiting from interest in its “Little Drummer Boy,” Pentatonix’s “PTXMas,” which is not new, claims the number two position. Jake Owen’s “Days of Gold” follows at three.

Michael Buble’s 2011 “Christmas” album claims fourth, while the “Frozen” soundtrack holds at number five.

Four familiar faces (Kelly Clarkson’s “Wrapped in Red,” One Direction’s “Midnight Memories,” Lorde’s “Pure Heroine” and Eminem’s “MMLP 2”) follow, while Sevyn Streeter’s EP “Call Me Crazy, But…” enjoys the last available spot in the top ten.

Regarding new releases, the only two others of note on iTunes are the soundtrack to NBC’s “The Sound of Music” (18) and the fourth “Glee” Christmas album (21).

More detailed sales estimates will be available by Wednesday.
