The rules for promoting albums are changing, and for many artists, the result has been partnering with iTunes to release a complete stream the week before release date.
Katy Perry was not one of those artists.
Though Perry is using iTunes to market “Prism” ahead of its October 22 release date, the singer-songwriter did not issue a full stream to the leading digital music store. Potential “Prism” buyers only have the opportunity to sample 1:30 snippets of the tracks.
But if one thought that meant Katy Perry was rebelling against the new practice of offering complete album streams, one would be wrong. Perry and label Capitol Records instead turned to SoundCloud–and the official Katy Perry website–to offer a complete stream of the thirteen standard and three deluxe-edition tracks.
If you are a pop music fan, you are certainly familiar with blockbuster lead “Prism” single “Roar.” And if you are a Katy Perry fan, you also likely know promotional singles “Walking on Air” and “Dark Horse” and second radio single “Unconditionally.” But you now have the opportunity to sample the album in its entirety; listen below!
