It was the season’s most heavily-hyped pilot, and it seems to have delivered in its debut.
According to TV Media Insights, the premiere of “Agents of SHIELD” attracted a healthy 7.7 overnight metered market rating Tuesday. There is no precise guarantee on how the rating will translate to an adults 18-49 number, but given the expected young skew, it should perform very well there as well.
(Update: “Agents of SHIELD” delivered a 4.6 adults 18-49 rating with 11.9 million viewers. The performance was an irrefutable victory for ABC)
ABC followed “SHIELD” with new comedies “The Goldbergs” and “Trophy Wife.” The former, which delivered a 6.0 overnight rating, seems to have held up reasonably well given the appointment nature of its lead-in, but there was a notable drop-off for the latter. From 9:30-10, the Malin Akerman comedy averaged just a 4.7 in the overnights.
Things then got even worse for the premiere of ABC’s new hourlong series “Lucky 7.” It averaged a paltry 3.1 metered market rating at 10PM.
(Update: Following a solid premiere for “The Goldbergs” (3.2 rating, 9.1 million), “Trophy Wife” fell to a 2.3 with 6.6 million. Though a respectable number in a vacuum, the show’s dip from its lead-in, also a half-hour sitcom, was disappointing.
“Lucky 7” irrefutably flopped with a 1.3 and 4.6 million viewers.
