“Dads,” “Brooklyn Nine Nine” Ratings Fall Against New Competition

Update: “Dads” fell to a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating with 3.65 million for its second episode, which already represents a troubling number for the buzzworthy series. “Brooklyn Nine Nine,” which got off to a solid start last week, fell to a disappointing 1.8 rating with 4.00 million viewers.

Later in the night, “New Girl” delivered a soft 2.1 with 4.10 million while “The Mindy Project” could only muster a 1.5 and 3.04 million.

Inevitable due to the loss of premiere inflation and addition of stiff timeslot competition, FOX’s new comedies “Dads” and “Brooklyn Nine Nine” declined in the ratings Tuesday.

According to TV Media Insights, poorly-reviewed “Dads” fell 42% in the overnight metered markets to a 2.8 rating. Lead-out “Brooklyn,” meanwhile, dropped by the same percentage to a soft 3.1.

Returning comedies “New Girl” and “The Mindy Project” then followed with slides of their own; the former posted a 3.1, while the latter delivered a 2.4.

While last week’s premiere performances were considered passable, the adults 18-49 numbers were not so strong that big drops could be afforded. Whether the shows will remain in acceptable demo territory will not be clear until the full report launches at noon, but things are not looking good for the FOX lineup.

Given a head start by FOX, the new comedies simply could not avoid a bleed against the impact of CBS’ “NCIS,” ABC’s “Agents of SHIELD” and NBC’s “The Voice.”
