In the realm of the awards shows, there is nothing wrong with predictable. After all, if someone is so dominant that they appear to be the obvious winner, shouldn’t they win?
Claire Danes’ second consecutive Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her work on “Homeland” likely prompted groans from those who wanted a surprise, but given the emotion of her performance, it would be hard to call it a robbery. And after two stunning reveals–that Bobby Cannavale won for Best Supporting Actor and Jeff Daniels won for Best Lead Actor–it was a welcome return to the obvious.
Danes beat out Connie Britton, Michell Dockery, Kerry Washington, Vera Farmiga, Robin Wright and Elisabeth Moss.
For those keeping score, that means Emmy voters went the obvious route in the Dramatic Actress categories–Danes and Anna Gunn were the clear frontrunners–and the shocking route in the Actor categories.
