“30 Rock,” “Modern Family” Win Writing, Directing Emmys

They might not have won in any of the acting categories, but “30 Rock” and “Modern Family” are not going home empty-handed.

The Emmy reliables took the Outstanding Writing and Directing Emmys, respectively, proving that while their reigns of dominance–and reigns period, in the case of the concluded “30 Rock”–might be over, their ability to win awards continues through this year.

Tina Fey and Tracy Wigfield wrote “Last Lunch,” the victorious episode of “30 Rock.” Their script, which beat out another “30 Rock” episode, topped episodes of “Episodes,” “Louie,” and “The Office.”

“Modern Family”‘s directorial victory went to Gail Mancuso, whose work topped efforts on “30 Rock,” “Girls,” “Louie” and “Glee.”
