“The World’s End” Tops “Mortal Instruments” at Box Office

As if there were any doubt, “The Mortal Instruments” is definitely no “Twilight.”

After getting off to a lukewarm, but still first place, start earlier this week, “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” sank to fourth on Friday. In addition to trailing holdovers “The Butler” ($4.8 million) and “We’re the Millers” ($4.0 million), the poorly-reviewed novel adaptation lost the day to fellow newcomer “The World’s End.”

Despite appearing in half as many theatres, the well-reviewed comedy earned $3.5 million Friday, besting “Instruments”‘ $3.1 million in the battle for third place.

Well-reviewed “You’re Next” followed with in fifth place with $2.9 million.
