“Catfish” Ratings Fall to Series Low; Show’s Decline Continues

Last month, MTV’s “Catfish” hit a season ratings high–and scored significant buzz–for “Lauren & Derek,” the first episode in which the potential perpetrator proved to be exactly who he said he was.

Derek’s honesty made for a great television moment. Unfortunately, insofar as it might have represented a peak for the series, it did not come without bad news.

Ratings fell, albeit slightly, in the two weeks following that episode. And that decline accelerated for this week’s “Mike & Kristen,” which set a new viewership low for the series.

Nowhere near the top of the Tuesday cable heap, the episode delivered a mere 0.8 adults 18-49 rating with 1.58 million viewers.

The show previously set a low of 1.76 million viewers for “Anthony & Marq,” the second episode of the second season. No first season episode attracted less than two million.
