FX’s “The Bridge” Ratings Collapse in Week Two

Though somewhat underwhelming, last week’s numbers for the series premiere of FX’s “The Bridge” were solid enough to spin as passable.

That sort of spin is impossible this week.

Despite critical high marks, the dark FX drama tanked in week two, dropping to a mere 0.5 adults 18-49 rating with 1.74 million viewers. The series essentially saw its audience halved after just one episode.

Fighting an uphill battle due to its dark, methodical tone, “The Bridge” faces the additional challenge of featuring Diane Kruger’s character at the center of its story.

Though most reviews of her turn as an autistic detective are positive, an element of her character is an inability to connect or empathize with other people. That inability to connect unfortunately applies to viewers as well, and without a charming lead to whom they can relate, audiences have little character-centric incentive to tune into FX’s new drama series.
