Kings of Leon Reveal New Song “Supersoaker,” Listen Now

After breaking out as superstars with 2008’s “Only By the Night,” Kings of Leon marched towards follow-up “Come Around Sundown” with endless momentum. They earned a Grammy for Record of the Year, released ubiquitous singles “Sex on Fire” and “Use Somebody” and were scoring massive interest for their live concerts.

Though it sold well out of the gate, “Sundown” failed to produce meaningful singles and thus stalled the band’s momentum. Matters were made worse when, following a live concert incident involving singer Caleb Followill, Kings of Leon canceled much of its 2011 summer. The band ultimately went on hiatus in late 2011.

Fans can rejoice, as KoL is back. Sixth studio album “Mechanical Bull” set for a September release, and the hype campaign formally began Wednesday with the release of new song “Supersoaker.” Though definitely more polished and stadium-friendly, it calls back their earlier sound and is thus poised to resonate with pre- and post-“Only By the Night” KoL fans. It lacks the pop sensibility to garner airplay the way “Use Somebody” did, but it should certainly be strong enough to keep Kings of Leon on the radar for rock and alt fans.
