Amazon Picks Up “Betas,” “Alpha House,” Passes on “Onion News Empire”

The screening period is over, and Amazon has made its decision regarding which “Originals” pilots will become series.

The e-commerce giant confirmed this week that comedies “Alpha House” and “Betas,” set in the worlds of politics and tech start-ups, respectively, will proceed to series.

Given its high-profile cast and vibe, “Alpha House” seemed like the surest bet for pickup, while the lower-key “Betas” undoubtedly earned its greenlight on the strength of viewer feedback.

In announcing those series orders, Amazon effectively revealed that “Those Who Can’t,” “Onion News Empire” and “Browsers” will not proceed. Amazon’s decision to pass on “Zombieland” had already been documented.

On the children’s front, Amazon picked up “Creative Galaxy,” “Annebots” and “Tumbleleaf” to series.
