NBC Renews “Parks and Recreation” for Season Six, Cancels “1600 Penn,” “Whitney”

Multiple sources confirmed Thursday that NBC has given “Parks and Recreation” a sixth season.

Speculation suggests the upcoming sixth season will be its last, but NBC has not officially said anything to confirm such dialogue.  And so, thus far, “Parks” fans only have cause for celebration.

Fans of “Whitney,” on the other hand, should brace themselves for bad news.  NBC reportedly axed “Whitney,” along with fellow sophomore comedy “Up All Night” and freshmen “1600 Penn” and “Guys with Kids” Thursday.  None delivered good ratings, but insofar as ratings standards for NBC’s comedies are so low, fans of those series had no reason to automatically abandon hope.

Comedies still on the bubble include “Community,” “Go On” and “The New Normal.”
