Orlando Dixon, Ryan Innes, Jon Peter Lewis Shine in Latest “The Voice” Battle Rounds

Various elements of “The Voice” have come together to make it television’s number one music competition series, and one irrefutable source of entertainment is the Battle Round.

A series of vocal duels that pit two members of each team against each other, with only one advancing to the next round, the battles are good not only for the drama of who will advance but for the spirited musical performances they produce.

Monday’s episode featured well-received takes on “You and I,” “Locked Out of Heaven” and “Ain’t No Sunshine.” The latter, a competition between Ryan Innes and Orlando Dixon, made for one of the more impassioned performances thus far on the show’s fourth season.

Oft-mocked “American Idol” season three contestant Jon Peter Lewis, meanwhile, continued his path to redemption as part of folk rock duo Midas Whale. His group joined Patrick Dodd in a crowd-pleasing version of “Burning Love.”
