Live action at WWE WrestleMania 29 technically began on the pre-show, when Mike “The Miz” Mizanin defeated Wade Barrett to win the Intercontinental Championship.
But as far as the PPV is concerned, the action commences with the six-man tag between The Shield and Big Show, Sheamus and Randy Orton.
Live results of the match follow:
Randy Orton, Sheamus & Big Show vs. The Shield
The faces enter the ring first; The Shield enters through the crowd to follow.
Sheamus and Roman Reigns begin the action. Sheamus takes the action to Reigns with some power punches, and his momentum enables him to fight off some counter attempts from Reigns.
Sheamus brings Orton into the match. Orton stomps Reigns, but as he brings the Shield member back to his feet, Reigns counters with a knee to the gut. He tags in Rollins.
As Rollins charges towards Orton, Orton counters and then brings Rollins into the corner for the ten punches.
Tags occur, and Sheamus and Ambrose are squaring off. Sheamus goes to work and brings Big Show into the ring, who continues the assault on Ambrose. Show unzips Ambrose’s vest and then whacks him with a hard chop to the exposed chest. Ambrose counters with a chop of his own, but then Big Show unloads several more.
But when he goes off the ropes for an assault, Ambrose dropkicks Big Show in the knee and then tags in Rollins. Rollins attacks Big Show from the top rope. Two-count.
Rollins brings Reigns into the ring, and he responds with a big punch off the ropes. He tags in Ambrose, who now has his entire vest off and is wrestling shirtless.
Ambrose continues the offense, and then brings in Rollins. After more from Rollins, he tags in Reigns. Reigns puts BIg Show in a chinlock.
SHow is eventually able to recover, and he brings in Sheamus, who brings offense to current Shield legal man Rollins. Sheamus rips Rollins’ vest off and delivers his punches on the side of the ropes. Ambrose tags himself in, but then Sheamus brings the same offense to Ambrose.
Sheamus hits a rolling senton on Ambrose and then counters a sneak attack from Rollins. He sets up to hit both off the top rope, but Reigns pulls Sheamus off the ropes to the outside.
The Shield collectively get their bearings in order and bring Sheamus into the ring for the triple powerbomb, but Big Show spears the huddle to block the move.
Big Show gets back to his corner, and Sheamus cralws towards Big Show for the tag. But just as he gets there, Orton tags himself in instead, and the crowd boos. Big Show looks dejected.
Orton, nonetheless, is putting the offense together, and he stalks Ambrose for the RKO. Rollins jumps off the top rope to help his opponent, but Orton catches him in mid-air for the RKO. But three-on-one proves to be too much, as Reigns connects with a spear. Ambrose pins Orton, and he gets the three count.
Show, upset about the tag situation, does not attempt to break up the pinfall.
Winners: The Shield
After the match, Big Show confronts Orton in the middle of the ring. Orton tries to calm himself down, but then Big Show delivers the KO punch to Sheamus, who was making his way back into the ring. Orton confronts Show about the punch, but he then gets a KO punch of his own.
Show left the match as a heel, but he did so in a way that did not imply he was joining The Shield.
