Though the anticipated release of Justin Timberlake’s “20/20 Experience” has consumed most of the media’s attention this week, another story has been developing in the background–P!nk’s “Just Give Me a Reason” has surged to the top of the iTunes singles chart.
The song, which features vocals from co-writer Nate Ruess of fun. fame, was officially released as a single last month but has long reigned as a fan favorite from P!nk’s “The Truth About Love” album, which released last September.
Digital interest has been strong enough to propel the song to the pinnacle of several international charts.
In advancing to number one on iTunes, “Just Give Me a Reason” breaks open the reign of dominance that belonged to songs like Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man,” Rihanna’s “Stay,” and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Thrift Shop.”
will.i.am’s new release “#thatPOWER (featuring Justin Bieber), has quickly advanced to number five on the charts, while Timberlake’s “Mirrors” (7) and “Pusher Love Girl” (14) have moved into strong positions following the album’s release. “Suit & Tie,” the lead single, has versions at #6 and #8 on iTunes, while lower-profile “20/20” songs like “That Girl” (56), “Let the Groove Get In” (66), “Don’t Hold the Wall” (71), “Strawberry Bubblegum” (76), “Tunnel Vision” (78) and “Blue Ocean Floor” (87) have entered the top 100.
