Confidence in The CW’s “Cult” doubtfully existed, and with good reason. With a weak marketing campaign, little buzz and scathing reviews from those who did cover the series, the thriller showed no promise for breaking out as a winner.
Sure enough, it bombed in the ratings Tuesday night.
Update: “Cult” drew a 0.3 adults 18-49 rating with .94 million viewers.
According to TV Media Insights, the premiere drew a 0.8 overnight metered market rating. Down from the 1.1 for lead-in “Hart of Dixie,” a figure which is weak in its own right, “Cult” also premiered to a weaker number than failed previous timeslot occupant “Emily Owens, MD.”
That show opened with a 1.2 overnight on October 16, 2012.
Worse for “Cult” is that the metered market number dipped at the halfway point from a 0.8 to a 0.7.
Given how poorly many of The CW’s shows are doing this season, it is conceivable the final adults 18-49 rating (the aforementioned overnight rating is an overall household number) will not be too far below the recent average for series like “90210,” “The Carrie Diaries” and “Nikita,” but there is still nothing positive about this performance.
