Many analysts have been unimpressed with domestic box office interest in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” but few behind the film are likely crying. The film won the weekend box office race for its third consecutive week.
“Hobbit” added $32.9 million to its haul this weekend, a figure that brought its cumulative total to $222.7 million. It was also enough to hold off strong newcomers “Django Unchained” ($30.7 million, $64M since Christmas release) and “Les Miserables” ($28.0 million, $67.5M since Christmas).
“Parental Guidance” followed with $14.8 million ($29.6M since Christmas), while “Jack Reacher” completed the top five on $14 million in receipts.
