Charlie Sheen Says No Drug Tests on FX’s “Anger Management”

It remains to be seen if Charlie Sheen can continue avoid the choices that plagued the end of his “Two and a Half Men” run, but the actor reveals to the New York Times that concern for drug tests and physical examinations will not be the guiding light on the set of “Anger Management.”

According to Sheen, FX officials will not administer drug tests or require him to submit to physical examinations in conjunction with his new series, which premieres on June 28.

Sheen confirms that he told FX to “go away” with the suggestion of drug tests, noting that it is a “total invasion of privacy.”

As for his physical condition, “If they say, ‘What’s going on?,’ I’m like, I don’t know, what’s going on with you? ‘Well, you seem a little …’ Really, that’s your opinion? How does the work look? ‘Well, the work’s great but …’ Everything after ‘but’ is a dial tone. Go to hell.”

The actor notes that FX “knew what they were getting. And they know that it is not always going to be smooth sailing.”

Smooth sailing or not, Sheen reveals in the interview that he sees the upcoming FX comedy as his “swan song.” But fans of the veteran actor might not have to wave goodbye for a while; “Anger Management” was booked on a 10-90 deal, and if the first ten episodes hit a certain ratings benchmark, an additional ninety episodes will be readied for broadcast.

“Anger Management” premieres on June 28 as part of FX’s Thursday comedy block. The Sheen vehicle will lead into season two of “Wilfred,” which then sends viewers to season three of “Louie” and the debut of Russell Brand’s “Brand X.”
