Deron Williams is No Dwight Howard; Will Not Opt-In With NJ Nets

New Jersey Nets star point guard Deron Williams made it clear Friday he has no intentions of exercising the one-year option on his contract with the team this summer.

The definitive statement, made to the NY Daily News, comes a day after Dwight Howard formally waived his right to opt-out, agreeing to stay with the Orlando Magic for the 2012-13 season.

“I’m not going to opt-in. It’s not monkey-see, monkey-do,” Williams told the Daily News. “Wherever I go is hopefully where I’m going to retire.”

Williams can still choose to sign with the Nets–and earn a greater sum of money for doing so–in the offseason, but this comment assure his future with the Nets is far from confirmed.

It also intensifies speculation that he will look to sign with his hometown Dallas Mavericks.
