“American Idol” Reveals First Elimination, Brings Group Down to 12

“American Idol” executed its first finals elimination of the season Thursday, relying upon a cumbersome results process that put almost half of the contestants “in danger.”

A special elimination format for this week, the show narrowed the field down to the lowest male vote-getter and the lowest female vote-getter. The judges then decided which one to send home.

Forced to choose between wildcard contestant Jeremy Rosado and Elise Testone, who was voted into the finals as one of America’s top ten, the judges went with the more just scenario and axed Rosado from the competition. He had performed “Ribbon in the Sky” as part of the prior night’s Stevie Wonder theme.

Prior to the reveal, “Idol” confirmed that Joshua Ledet and and Jermaine Jones joined Rosado in the bottom three on the male side. Erika Van Pelt and Shannon Magrane joined Elise on the female side.

The top twelve return to the stage next Wednesday.
