Neither film was projected to vie for the box office crown this weekend, but that reality, especially in the case of one, should not soften the blow of early box office results.
Early reports from Friday screenings show that “30 Minutes or Less,” which was tracking for a debut in the high teens, might only turn in about $10 million this weekend. Preceded by a flop in “The Change-Up,” “30 Minutes” would make for the second consecutive comedy disappointment after a string of successes in the genre this summer.
“Glee: The 3D Concert Movie,” meanwhile, is estimated to fall just shy of $10 million for its three-day opening. Though somewhat disappointing given the touted pop culture impact of the FOX series, that total is at least in line with what analysts had expected going into the weekend.
“Rise of the Planet of the Apes” is expected to retain its box office title with about $25 million, while “The Help” will likely beat “Final Destination 5” by landing just over the $20 million mark.
