Amid all the television development buzz in this pre-Upfront week comes a universal indication that NBC will, predictably, be cancelling “The Event.”
The freshman drama opened to strong ratings for NBC this season. Better, unlike so many recent attempts at recreating the magic of ABC’s “Lost,” there was actually a healthy dose about the quality of the serialized drama.
Unfortunately, its ratings–and acclaim–faded in nose-dive fashion, and the show built into its fall finale with virtually no excitement. It returned from a lengthy hiatus with even less buzz, and its recent ratings have been very weak. It scored just a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating this week.
Variety adds that the Peacock, with “Community,” “The Office,” “Parks & Recreation” and “30 Rock” all renewed and a number of new comedy series on the roster, is also likely to cancel “Outsourced.”
— Only FOX and NBC have made their pilot intentions clear this week, but behind-the-scenes development can often provide very reliable information. If that proves to be the case, ABC’s “Good Christian Bitches” and “Charlie’s Angels” are basically looks for series orders; both, Variety says, have begun building their writing staffs.
