With the blind auditions over and teams selected for NBC’s “The Voice,” the battle rounds now begin. The rounds pit contestants from the same team against each other as the coaches narrow their list of performers down.
Set to air this Tuesday at 10PM, the gimmick should again prove helpful in lending credibility to the talent on the NBC series. “The Voice” has not yet found its “voice” as it relates to story-telling, certainly not to the extent of FOX’s “American Idol,” but reviews for the talent have been strong thus far, and the battle rounds add an interesting head-to-head element that is not often seen on competition series in the genre.
Also of interest is how the ratings will hold up. “The Voice” has been a smash success in the adults 18-49 demo, with the most recent telecast, a two-hour episode last Tuesday, averaging a 5.7 adults final adults 18-49 rating. The show has, thus far, performed better in the 10PM hour than the 9PM hour, but it will be interesting to see if the show can match–or even exceed–that 10PM performance without the same amount of momentum at 9PM.
