Due to the judges using their only season ten save on Casey Abrams last week, “American Idol” was forced to end the dream for two contestants on Thursday’s results show.
Before getting there, however, “Idol” would have an additional burden–matching the drama and excitement of last week’s show-stopping results show. Without a surprise Hulk Hogan appearance and the drama of the save, would it be able to do so?
The answer was no, although the show did provide a great little twist–it divided the contestants into groups, and such groups performed musical numbers prior to learning of the results. Highlighting this series was a Lauren Alaina-Scotty McCreery duet on “I Told You So.” Singing the Randy Travis classic in the spirit of the updated duet with Carrie Underwood, the two gelled very well and achieved a standing ovation from the judges.
Other performances included Naima Adedapo and Jacob Lusk on “Solid,” Haley Reinhart, Thia Megia and Pia Toscano on “Teenage Dream” and James Durbin, Paul McDonald, Casey Abrams and Stefano Langone on “Band on the Run.”
All of this, along with performances from Fantasia and Jamie Foxx (featuring will.i.am), led to the announcement that Naima Adedapo and Thia Megia were eliminated; the results were consistent with Headline Planet’s analysis and forecast following Wednesday’s results show.
Paul McDonald, in his first trip to the group, joined them in the bottom three.
