Katy Perry Scores Another Number One with “E.T.”

Katy Perry furthered her case for the claim of pop music’s most successful singles artist–her “E.T.” will land at the top of tomorrow’s Billboard Hot 100.

Released as a single with guest rapping from Kanye West, “E.T.” marks Perry’s fourth number one from 2010’s “Teenage Dream.” Previous chart-toppers include “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream” and “Firework.”

Perry’s “Teenage Dream” becomes the first album to yield four number ones since Usher’s 2004 smash “Confessions.” She is the first female to pull off the accomplishment since Mariah Carey did so with her 1990 debut.

“I am so thrilled that ‘E.T.’ has landed at No. 1,” Perry told Billboard. “I want to thank all the fans who contributed to this amazing feat and radio, which has been an essential part of my continued existence. I truly appreciate all the support of my creative twists and turns.”

Since re-branding herself on 2008’s “One of the Boys” album, which was highlighted by her breakthrough single “I Kissed a Girl,” Perry has been a legitimate hit machine. Following the lengthy number one stay for that song, Perry has reached the Hot 100’s top ten with six out of seven singles. Only “Thinking of You” failed to break into that top portion of the chart; it peaked at 29.
