“24” Emmy Winner Joins NBC’s Buzzworthy “REM” Pilot, Laura Allen Also In

NBC’s drama pilot “REM,” from “24” showrunner Howard Gordon, has been generating ample buzz this pilot season, and while it remains to be seen if it can avoid going the way of “The Event,” it can at least enjoy casting hype for the time being.

Deadline reported Monday that “24” Emmy winner Cherry Jones, who played President Taylor in the last two seasons, will join in a supporting role.

Described as an “Inception”-style thriller in which a man (Jason Isaacs) awakes to find himself in two separate realities–one in which he is responsible for the death of his son and another in which his wife is the victim–early feedback has been positive. Jones plays the Isaacs character’s therapist in the “wife” reality.

Laura Allen, meanwhile, has been upped to the female lead, the main character’s wife Hannah. She had previously been cast in the supporting role of Tara, but based on a recommendation from the showrunner, she tried out for the lead and received the part. Michaela McManus replaces Allen in the Hannah role.
