The book has closed on “SouthLAnd” becoming a ratings winner in its cable home on TNT, but that does not mean its fans will have to wave goodbye.
A Variety feature on the show’s upcoming season finale says that TNT is closing in on ordering a fourth season of the critically-acclaimed cop drama.
Thanks to the success it has at deriving profit from procedurals, including its well-rated “The Closer” and “Rizzoli & Isles,” the cable network is able to support critically-acclaimed, but lower-rated shows like “SouthLAnd” and “Men of a Certain Age.”
Variety notes that insiders are looking for “SouthLAnd” to finally make a dent in the Emmy race. Regina King and Michael Cudlitz have been praised for their work on the show since the beginning, while Ben McKenzie and Shawn Hatosy contributed to the mix with strong seasons. A nomination in a key Emmy category would certainly justify the show’s continued existence.
