In the wake of disappointing sales for his “The Other Side of Down,” David Archuleta has been dropped from Jive Records, the label confirmed to THR.
The runner-up on season seven of “Idol,” Archuleta left the show with a decent fanbase. That following helped turn his debut single “Crush” into a legitimate hit, and his self-titled album ultimately went platinum.
Just over two years ago, that was nonetheless a different era–one in which the radio was far kinder to singles from “Idol” contestants. With a waning fanbase and without any newfound mainstream support, Archuleta’s 2010 album “Down” was a sales disappointment, and Archuleta has since been “released” from the Jive roster.
— Apple confirmed Friday that Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” was the fastest-selling single in the history of iTunes; it reached the million-unit mark in just five days. The song, which sparked controversy for its similarities to Madonna’s “Express Yourself” and “Vogue,” debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
