MTV’s “Skins” Ratings Crash, See No Benefit from Controversy

Without the monstrous “Jersey Shore” lead-in, it was a foregone conclusion that MTV’s “Skins” would suffer a ratings dip for its second episode. But hope that the controversy surrounding its content would provide comfort from a major crash was not realized.

Ratings for the adults 18-49 demographic were not available at press time, but total viewership for the second episode has been confirmed at 1.6 million viewers. That marks a decline of more than 50% from the premiere audience, which registered in at 3.3 million.

From a glass half-full perspective, it is worth noting that the week-to-week “Skins” decline was slightly less significant than that of “The Hard Times of RJ Berger,” which received benefit from the MTV Movie Awards for its premiere.

That show, which has been renewed for a second season, dropped from a premiere audience of 2.6 million to one of less than 1.2 million.
