Neither big new release lived up to the fairly-optimistic industry tracking, but “The Dilemma” underperformed to a far more notable extent.
The Vince Vaughn, Kevin James-starrer garnered a mere $6.1 million in its inaugural Friday. Good for only second place, the film is on track to fall short of its mid-$20 million projections, a forecast that was already lukewarm given the talent attached and Ron Howard’s involvement as director.
“The Green Hornet,” meanwhile, will have no trouble winning the weekend. Though it might not touch the lofty $40 million opening weekend projections that were released earlier this week, its $11.1 million Friday debut positions it for a healthy victory over the inaugural three day period.
Elsewhere, “True Grit” continued to perform admirably with $3.2 million for third place, while “The King’s Speech,” expanded in time for awards season, managed $2.5 million for fourth. “Black Swan,” which expanded to a more typical wide release count, was fifth with $2.4 million.
