Crystal Bowersox’s Album Sales Could Top “American Idol” Winner Lee DeWyze

This will not be another case of runners up Clay Aiken and Adam Lambert or fourth place finisher Chris Daughtry, but based on early estimates, “American Idol”‘s latest runner-up Crystal Bowersox has a chance of topping winner Lee DeWyze’s opening week sales mark.

Based on one day sales data at Hits Daily Double, Bowersox’s “Farmer’s Daughter” is on track for an opening frame figure of 45-50,000 sales. If that projection holds, her album’s opening sales will narrowly top those of Lee DeWyze’s “Live it Up.” That album opened to 39,000 copies this fall.

Regardless of who wins the race, it is clear that appearing on “American Idol” no longer guarantees a monster opening sales weeks. The combined opening week total for DeWyze and Bowersox will rank significantly below the total for any prior “Idol” pairing.
