“Pineapple Express” and “Zombieland” actress Amber Heard attended Friday’s GLAAD event with girlfriend Tasya van Ree, spurring a wave of headlines about her public “coming out” as a homosexual.
While this weekend might have represented the first time Heard publicly announced her sexuality, with much of the discussion stemming from a new AfterEllen interview in which she says, “I think GLAAD is one of the many reasons that I, as a 24-year-old, can come out,” the actress’ homosexuality was not viewed as a mystery by many within the online gossip community.
Message board discussion of her supposed involvement in a lesbian relationship dates back many months. And, earlier this year, viral posting of risque short films starring Heard widely and clearly identified director Tasya van Ree as the actress’ girlfriend. At least one example of such posting can be found on an Amber Heard fansite, which featured the “girlfriend”as early as September 2010.
Amber Heard had nonetheless been a top-trending web topic all day, with the 3:20PM EST Google Trends update ranking ‘amber heard’ the 14th most-searched term on the Internet. Though photos and videos of the very beautiful, hardly shy Heard are always popular on male-skewing celebrity websites, it is clear that the “coming out” story is driving the explosvie search interest.
