“The Event”‘s ratings challenge simply will not let up.
Though the cast maintains its hope of a winter resurgence, the fall remains unkind to NBC’s heavily-marketed freshman drama. Monday’s new episode showed no signs of improvement with a mere 1.7 adults 18-49 rating and 5.73 million viewers.
Already unlikely to experience much of a ratings rebound based on its serialized nature, the show’s numbers have gotten so bad that even if such a rebound did occur, it probably would not be enough to erase the show’s status as a ratings ‘loser.’
The rest of NBC’s Monday lineup looked equally bleak. “Chuck” opened things up with a 1.8 and 5.55 million viewers, while disastrous freshman drama “Chase” could only muster a 1.2 with 4.57 million for a distant third place finish at 10PM.
Elsewhere, FOX’s “House” managed to win its 8PM timeslot with a solid 4.0 and 10.81 million viewers. On a nightly basis, it topped the 90-minute “Dancing with the Stars” (20.57 million, 4.0 rating, but rounded) and only fell short of “Two and a Half Men” (14.15 million, 4.5 rating) in the overall broadcast ratings race.
“Lie to Me” squandered much of its “House” lead-out, but it still managed to top “The Event” at 9PM with a 2.0 rating and 6.03 million viewers.
Of course, that note seems less impressive given the fact that a re-run of “The Middle” followed “Dancing” with a 2.3 and 10.06 million viewers at 9:30PM. “Castle” led out with a 2.5 and 9.98.
The CW aired “90210” (1.75 million, 0.9) and “Gossip Girl” (1.72 million, 0.9).
