“Megamind” Stops “Unstoppable” At Weekend Box Office, “Morning Glory” Weak

“Megamind” was not the box office all-star many were expecting in its first week, but it still managed a healthy second weekend performance en route to a big victory.

The film grossed an estimated $30.1 million, which was enough to hold off newcomer “Unstoppable.” Despite the extremely strong reviews, that film played like a textbook Denzel Washington release at the box office, scoring $23.5 million.

“Due Date” fell back to number three with $15.5 million. The 52% decline was expected given the film’s soft reviews and high level of opening week interest.

“Skyline” and “Morning Glory,” two new releases, offered nothing spectacular, landing at fourth and fifth with $11.7 million an $9.6 million, respectively.

Weekend Top Ten:
1) Megamind – $30.1M ($89.8M)
2) Unstoppable – $23.5M
3) Due Date – $15.5M ($59.0M)
4) Skyline – $11.7M
5) Morning Glory – $9.6M
6) For Colored Girls – $6.8M ($30.9M)
7) Red – $5.1M ($79.8M)
8) Paranormal Activity 2 – $3.1M ($82.0M)
9) Saw 3D – $2.8M ($43.5M)
10) Jackass 3D – $2.3M ($114.7M)
