“Saw 3D” Tops “Paranormal Activity 2,” Wins Weekend Box Office

“Saw 3D” rebounded from last year’s surprising defeat to “Paranormal Activity” with a win over the sequel this weekend.

Though not a monster gross for a popular horror film on Halloween weekend fueled by higher-priced 3D tickets, “Saw 3D”‘s $24.2 million still proved enough to win the weekend. “Paranormal Activity 2” slipped to second with $16.5 million, a predictable drop of about 60%.

“Red” fell into third place with $10.8 million, topping “Jackass 3D” ($8.4 million) and “Hereafter” ($6.3 million).

On the limited front, “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest” garnered $915,000 in its first weekend, falling behind “Conviction”‘s $1.8 million. “Welcome to the Rileys” was the top platform release with $45,000 from ten screens.
