The creatively-strong “Modern Family” continues delivering for ABC in the ratings department; Monday’s episode posted another 4.7 adults 18-49 with 11.92 million viewers.
Last week’s demographic winner for all scripted television, “Family” again positions itself as one of the hottest properties on television.
Its strong performance, nonetheless, is simply unable to turn “Cougar Town” into anything more than a passable performer. Wednesday’s episode bled roughly a third of its “Modern” lead-in, posting a 3.1 rating with 7.49 million viewers.
Earlier in the night, ABC comedy “The Middle” was up slightly to a 2.6 with 8.54 million viewers. “Better With You” averaged a 2.1 with 6.97 million viewers. While it is unclear whether ABC has anything else capable of outperforming “Better With You” (the planned midseason entries do not scream ‘ratings phenomena’), a comedy sandwiched between “The Middle” and “Modern Family” should not be performing so poorly.
“The Whole Truth” closed ABC’s evening with a poor 1.4 and 4.57 million viewers.
Over on NBC, The Peacock received mixed news. “Undercovers” was still a weak 8PM performer with a 1.5 and 5.88 million viewers, but both “Law & Order” series rebounded from last week’s dismal numbers. “Law & Order: SVU” was up to a 2.6 rating with 8.52 million viewers while “Law & Order: LA” upticked 26% to a 2.4 with 8.06 million viewers.
