No big winners were introduced at the box office this weekend, allowing “The Expendables” to reign supreme for a second week.
Even with a sizable drop-off to an estimated $16.5 million, the all-star action film was able to claim another victory. It beat its nearest competitor “Vampires Suck,” which added a passable $12.2 million to its take after opening mid-week.
“Eat Pray Love” followed with $12 million for its second week, besting new release “Lottery Ticket” ($11.1 million). “The Other Guys” earned $10.1 million, leading “Piranha 3D,” which, despite strong reviews and increased 3D ticket prices, opened to a disappointing $10 million.
Other new releases included “Nanny McPhee Returns” ($8.3 million) and “The Switch” ($8.1 million).
