Critics–and the show’s small, but loyal fanbase–have regarded Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton, the “Friday Night Lights” leads, as some of the most effective family drama actors in recent television history. Yet despite consistent rave reviews for their performances as the Taylor parents, they had repeatedly been overlooked by Emmy voters.
Until this year. In a year that saw a lot of creative, breaking-from-the-norm nominations comes news that both Chandler and Britton will be vying for leading dramatic actor nominations at the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.
Although the two achieved victory in garnering nominations, the battle is far from over. Both go against some of the most accomplished and beloved dramatic actors on television. Chandler’s nomination puts him in contention against Michael C. Hall (“Dexter”), Matthew Fox (“Lost”), Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”), Jon Hamm (“Mad Men”) and Hugh Laurie (“House”).
Britton, meanwhile, faces Julianna Margulies (“The Good Wife”), Kyra Sedgwick (“The Closer”), January Jones (“Mad Men”), Mariska Hargitay (“Law & Order: SVU”) and Glenn Close (“Damages”).
