No Surprise: ABC Family Orders More “Pretty Little Liars”

Following a few weeks of “bucking the trend” on ABC Family, new summer series “Pretty Little Liars” has garnered an additional twelve episodes at the cable network.

The order, which gives “Liars” a full 22 episode slate for the first season, was beyond predictable–over its first three Tuesday airings, the show has actually grown its audience, a rare accomplishment for a show that premiered to a solid number with an excess of curiosity buzz.

Its most recent airing delivered an audience of 2.740 million viewers, putting it neck-and-neck with ABC Family flagship “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” (2.772 million last week). Among teenagers, last week’s “Liars” considerably outdrew the most recent “Secret Life.”

“‘Pretty Little Liars’ is a break-out hit for the network,” said ABC Family’s Kate Juergens in a release issued Monday. “We’re thrilled that our Millennial viewers have responded so strongly to the show. It’s a perfect fit with the network’s strong slate of original scripted dramas, including ‘The Secret Life of the American Teenager’ and ‘Make It or Break It.’”
