News On WWE Fatal 4 Way Title Change, Rey Mysterio’s Status, RAW News

Confirming reports this week that Jack Swagger was to lose the World Heavyweight Championship in the near term, WWE booked Rey Mysterio to win the Fatal 4 Way match and become SmackDown’s new world champion Sunday.

The call was made recently, and most speculation had correctly suggested that Mysterio would capture the belt. While WWE’s Vince McMahon had previously questioned Mysterio’s viability as champion due to his size, F4WOnline.com noted last week that he has since softened in his opposition to smaller champions.

The Observer also speculated that Mysterio might have been moved to the top of the candidates’ list due to his gesture of goodwill this summer. Mysterio passed on long-scheduled plans for a family vacation in order to return to WWE once Undertaker went down to injury, and the assumption is that WWE officials were undoubtedly thankful for the wrestler’s sacrifice.
